Maximize Your Yoder Smokers Pellet Grill Performance with the Fireboard App
From setting up your grill properly to using the DRIVE program to ensure you never overcook a meal again, here’s a list of ways to achieve consistent results using the powerful features of the Yoder Smokers/Fireboard App.
Connectivity
Set Up The Fireboard App
Available for both iOS and Android, the Fireboard app is the key to managing your Yoder Smokers grill from the palm of your hand. With the app, you can monitor grill and food temperatures, adjust cooking settings on the fly, and even set up custom DRIVE programs to automatically adjust temperatures under specific circumstances.
First, register for a free Fireboard account to unlock cloud-based features. This lets you remotely monitor temperatures, set alerts, view historical data, and manage your device settings—all from anywhere with an internet connection.
Once registered and logged in, navigate to the settings screen and pair your grill’s embedded FireBoard with the app. With the grill turned on and within 30 feet of your mobile device, tap the “Add FireBoard” button. Your device will scan for nearby FireBoard devices and locate the one embedded in your grill’s ACS. When the serial number appears, tap it to complete the pairing process. After a few seconds, you’ll see your grill’s FireBoard serial number along with an active Bluetooth icon.
Properly Set Up Your Wi-Fi Connectivity for On-The-Go Adjustability
Setting up Wi-Fi is one of the most overlooked features. Without Wi-Fi, you’re limited to local Bluetooth connectivity and can’t take full advantage of your FireBoard’s capabilities. To set it up, go to your settings, select the Manage Wi-Fi button, and follow the on-screen instructions.
The Fireboard Dashboard
Upon launching the app, you will land on the Dashboard page. Here, you can view all the details and charts for the current session or, if no session is active, the data from your most recent session.
The Chart View displays real-time temperatures at the top and an interactive chart at the bottom. You can resize the chart by pinching or double-tapping, scroll through it with your finger, or tap any point on the chart for specific details.
Additionally, from the Dashboard you can access DRIVE programs, customize alerts, and add photos or notes from your cook.
Use Programming Functions To Your Advantage
Set Alarms to Alert You Before You Run Out of Pellets
Running out of pellets during a cook is frustrating. Avoid this by setting low-temperature alarms to alert you when the grill reaches a low temperature (typically around 150°F to 170°F).
To set the low-temperature alarm, tap on Pit Temperature in the app and then select Add New Alert. You can receive alerts via text, email, or in-app notifications—just make sure your phone’s notification settings are enabled.
Never Overcook a Meal Again: Turn Your Grill into an Automatic Safety Warmer with a DRIVE Program
Using the DRIVE program and temperature probes, you can program your grill to switch to food-warming mode when dinner is ready. This is especially useful for overnight cooks or when the grill is running while you’re away.
Set the grill to maintain a setpoint until your food nears its desired finishing temperature, then automatically drop the temperature to 150°F to hold the food. To account for carryover cooking (where food temperature continues to rise even after removal from heat), set your alarm temperature 5–10°F below your target.
To create a DRIVE program, tap the Programs button in the lower-middle part of the screen and select Add Drive Program. Follow the guided steps to choose a Time Program, a Temp Program, or a Custom Drive Program (a combination of both). Once your steps are added, tap Start Drive to begin.
Program Auto Clean Cycles
Cleaning up after cooking is never fun—but you can simplify the process with a Drive program designed to burn off grease and food particles. Set up a Time Program to run at 390°F for 30 minutes after you remove your meat from the smoker, followed by a shutdown cycle to let the grill cool. Although you must trigger this program manually, you’ll appreciate the reduced mess when it’s time to clean your grates and heat diffuser.
Use Your Yoder FireBoard App with Other FireBoard Products
If you use additional FireBoard products—such as the FireBoard Spark, FireBoard Pulse, or the FireBoard II thermometers—you can integrate them with your Yoder Smoker pellet grill. This allows you to monitor more than two probes or even manage multiple grills simultaneously, which is ideal for entertaining.
To add more FireBoard products, tap the Settings button, select Add FireBoard, and follow the setup instructions.
Conclusion
The FireBoard app gives you enhanced control over your cooking sessions and provides the tools needed for consistent, delicious results. Experiment with the various app features and explore advanced functions—like sharing your cooking sessions—to get the most out of your Yoder pellet grill.
